Prospect Heights was first populated in 1935 when two young developers built their homes on what is now Elmhurst Road. These Prospect Heights homes were the first of many to be created in this area in what was a considered and well-planned development of the area. In 1976 Prospect Heights became the City of Prospect Heights ensuring residents more control over any movements that were made within their own borders and boundaries.
According to 2000 Census results, there were just over 17,000 Prospect Heights residents living in the area. Just ten years earlier the Prospect Heights population was 12% less. Prospect Heights residents are split into the following age groups: 1/4 are under the age of 18 and 11% are 65 years or older.
There are several elementary schools that service Prospect Heights property owners, and both of the high schools have won awards because of their academic achievements. Prospect Heights property owners highly value education. There is an extensive higher education campus within the City boundaries enabling students to take their education one step further if desired. Two private schools can be found in and around Prospect Heights if preferred, and there are also two public libraries that service different regions of Prospect Heights.
Other Prospect Heights amenities include: two medical centers, two hospitals, one community hospital, and an extensive network of emergency services running right through the region. Three different park authorities also service Prospect Heights, and there are some incredible natural parks, playgrounds, and sports fields for children of every age.
